“History Provides the Blueprint” explores the life of Dr. Eric E. Williams his legacy through the Eric Williams Memorial Collection (EWMC).

Dr. Williams was the first Afro-Caribbean ‘colonial’ to graduate Oxford with a Ph.D. in 1938. This scholar-turned-statesman became the first prime minister of the twin-island Caribbean nation of Trinidad and Tobago. He articulated a cohesive and enlightened vision for nation-building, established the country’s democratic foundation while he navigated it from British to self-sovereignty, and propelled education to the forefront of his country’s ¬†goals. He authored the still-controversial book¬†Capitalism and Slavery.

The EWMC is the Anglophone Caribbean’s first-ever research library, archives and museum.

The video’s inaugural screening occurred on September 25, 2008 – which would have been Dr. Williams’ 97th birthday, at the University of the West Indies, in St. Augustine, Trinidad, and Tobago, West Indies.
